How Do They Sound?
The Krk Rokit 5’s are a great speaker for any home recording set up. They don’t offer the bass response that a larger speaker would offer but thats to be expected, it’s just basic physics, the bigger the surface area, the longer sound waves we can create. It’s something to be aware of if your mixing. learning how they interact with your room is important. I’ve heard people say they lack bass, while others have said that the bass is fine. I personally don’t find that they lack bass but my room has bass traps in place and i have a tapered ceiling, which does a pretty good job at defusing frequencies and personally i would get the subwoofer krk offer, as your monitors as it will be hard to hear anything below 50 hertz.
They have a bass port on the front of the monitors which helps push the bass frequencies outwards giving you an accurate representation of your mix. You also have a high frequency level adjust, which is great if your room is creating more high frequencies than your mix has. You’ll think your mix sounds bright and crisp but when you listen to it in your car or another room it sounds flat and it doesn’t have that shimmer that you thought it had. So you can cut some frequencies to compensate for your room.
This will force you to add in more high frequencies. It will take a few listens to get right but once you have it adjusted you won’t have to adjust it again.
Frequency Response – 4.5/5
The frequency response on these monitors is very good. The range of this monitors are 45Hz – 35kHz but i feel at around 55Hz you find it difficult to hearing below this. The mid tones are detailed and the highs are crips to a certain point. They will give a clear and accurate definition of your mix without overly hyping sound in the process.
Sound Quality – 4/5
The sound quality of these KRK monitors are INCREDIBLE. They can produce punchy low tones, clear mids and crisp highs.
They seem somewhat lacking in anything below 55 hertz but this can be fix by purchasing a the krk sub woofer. It is worth mentioning though that the sound produced by this speakers or all speakers is dependent on your room, in that your room might produce excess bass or have an abundance of high frequencies, this might lead you to think that your mix has loads of bass and high frequencies but when you take your track out of the room and listen to it in your car your mix will not sound as punchy in the lows or as crisp in the highs as it did in your room, so just be careful of this, learn your monitors and your room and you should be fine.
Design & Build Quality – 5/5
The build quality with these speakers is exceptional. In the new generation three models they have redesigned the outer structure of the monitor, overing more of a curved look to the sizes. This, however is not an aesthetic feature in fact according to krk the new curved cabinet and the redesigned bass port improves the tonal quality of the sound that the monitor reproduces.
Price – 5/5
The krk rokit series is a fantastic monitor, whether its the 5 inch or the 8 inch your getting and exceptional, well balanced sound that you can trust. Although they have minor faults, for the price you are getting an exceptional monitor and one you will love for years to come.
